A different point of view!
I just read James May's article in this month's TopGear magazine. There was one line which I really liked:
"Concorde was retired not because it was too noisy, too wasteful of resources or too expensive; it was because it wasn't fast enough. A journey took only half as long as it did on a 747..."
As you may recall, the Concorde was used British Airways and Air France till it was retired on November 2003. They said it was not economical and too noisy. But if you look at it from this point of view, you realise that it was simply not fast enough. Maybe it would not have been retired if it was much faster. If it takes only half as long as a 747 to fly from London to New York city, it's still too slow! At this age, we need something which is much more faster. Hence, the Concorde was discontinued because there was not a "big" difference in its speed and a standard 747's.
I have always enjoyed the Top Gear show and magazine, and James May is my favourite host and writer. I prefer an episode of Top Gear to a movie any day.. and I am not even a big fan of cars! No wonder it won an Emmy award.. I can't wait for the new series to begin!
