Portable Apps
I reinstalled my OS a couple of days ago. I was installing all the usual applications I use. I didn't want to install Nero because its too heavy and has a lot of extra stuff which I don't use. I needed an application which doesn't take a lot of hard disk space and system resources.
I started searching for such an application online and I found DeepBurner. There are 3 versions: Premium, Pro, Portable. Premium, as you might have guessed is the paid version. The one which I downloaded was the portable one.
The best thing about portable applications is that you don't need to install anything to run the application. These Apps are made to run on a pen drive, so they usually don't take much space. And they give the functionality of a full fledged application.
All this applies to DeepBurner. I just burned my first data DVD with it and everything went smoothly.
This has encouraged me to look for portable alternatives to other applications, perhaps a PDF reader. Maybe An IM client. A simple C++ compiler? .. All the usual applications.
Infact, if you think about it, all the usual portable applications can be ported to work as browser based applications. I think all the functionality is possible with AJAX (JavaScript on client side interacting with server using XML to transfer data). This gives me a lot of new ideas for web based applications!
Damn.. maybe I said too much! If you get an idea of a web based application after reading this and develop it, please mention my blog at your website!
